Hey folks, Here's a peek at my drawing process for the variant cover of Captain America Reborn 3.
visit marvel's website [link] for more info on the series.
Ok, some people violently reacted to my signing cap's shield. sorry for that. Marvel didn't mind I thought it's a small signature anyways.
Now the process:
1) digital sketches 2) refining digital sketch. added a 3d shield cause I can. hehe. 3) I then print it out then use a lighbox for very quick pencils then straight to inks for the traditional art phase. 4) water color, which took up the bulk of the coloring time. I went for the safe route, no underpainting. Obviously, in a perfect world, I'd color this drew struzan style but I haven't got the skillz for it. The yellow and violets on the white parts are my nod to japanese style artists, which I really dig. Udon? hehe. 5) finally, I came in with colored pencils and pastels, scanned it, tweaked the levels a bit then some very, very minor digital colors with photoshop.
The Liquify tool, always very useful to me, allowed me to fix his sausage like middle finger. ( that's what you get for not tightening pencils first before inking.)
