Hey folks, Here's a peek at my drawing process for the variant cover of Captain America Reborn 3.
visit marvel's website [link] for more info on the series. Ok, some people violently reacted to my signing cap's shield. sorry for that. Marvel didn't mind Now the process: 1) digital sketches 2) refining digital sketch. added a 3d shield cause I can. hehe. 3) I then print it out then use a lighbox for very quick pencils then straight to inks for the traditional art phase. 4) water color, which took up the bulk of the coloring time. I went for the safe route, no underpainting. Obviously, in a perfect world, I'd color this drew struzan style but I haven't got the skillz for it. The yellow and violets on the white parts are my nod to japanese style artists, which I really dig. Udon? hehe. 5) finally, I came in with colored pencils and pastels, scanned it, tweaked the levels a bit then some very, very minor digital colors with photoshop. The Liquify tool, always very useful to me, allowed me to fix his sausage like middle finger. ( that's what you get for not tightening pencils first before inking.) hope this helps a bit! |

Absolutely amazing
How long did it take, from start to finish?

Without art we are monotonous beings, kicking dust and screaming

ps: I have left the "fisical" pencil and all my drawings are digital, I don't know if you agree with me, but I think it's easier and faster.

thanks
one thing you have to keep in mind is original art sales. Covers usually sell more than the rate you were commissioned for.

Check my journal for prices on commission sketches, I am always accepting!
