Artist's Comments

Cover for DABEL BROTHERS' THE SWORN SWORD.

another warm background cover but this time they preferred it over the cool bg...

This is not as gritty as my usual covers as I'm trying to match the interior artist's clean style...

real colorists can definitely do a better job but I need the
practice so I have to do this from time to time....

from this day forward, I will never layout on the actual page anymore... I realize sketching on a small paper, scanning, blowing it up and printing is pretty darn helpful...:)

Hope you guys pick this one up!

AWESOME! I love the colors! I will try the thumb nail design.

The neck could have been a bit thicker filling out the back where it goes to the hood, and the eye seems a bit high. What do you think? Colors are great and the values are nice. Maybe a different color/value on the background would have poped him out a bit. But as always, it has your unique style that we love.
Thanks for sharing!

Dude! FREAKING. RAD. :D

Your colour treatment is very nuanced and painterly, like crisp, smooth watercolours. Reminds me a bit of the pre-Raphaelites. ;)

Could I trouble you for a description of your colouring method, what program and tools you used etc?

I'll have to pick this one up just for the cover art. :D
