I got one suggestion!
If they're only the footsoldiers and not ranking officers, maybe you could have them with a lighter armor cloud outfit and leave the heavily decorated and details cloth for the officers!
The more they're ranked, the more their outfit is detailed and will represent their grade!
This is so cool, already!!
