Hey folks!

If you are interested in seeing my early work, prior to breaking in, check out my tumblr page.  I'd like to keep Deviantart as a repository of my more presentable work so I won't post them here ;)

Hello dArtists,

I'm sure some of you are already using USB monitor outputs to extend your monitor desktops.  Any good brands you can suggest? any problems encountered?  is it a system hog?  is gaming a problem?

I will be switching back and forth from mac to pc.  thanks!

Hello folks!

Apologies for the long lull in posts:)  I've been swamped with work lately and been busy with life stuff:)
I'll be in the NY Comic-con so be sure to visit my booth for prints, sketchbooks and original art.  Will
gladly autograph all your comics but unfortunately, I won't be doing sketches (free or commission).  I hope
you understand:)  It's tough to draw with people all around you and I really want to enjoy the show a bit.

I'll be doing some sketches for Hero Initiative tho and I think the proceeds go to charity.  That will be just for a short while and
I'll be at the Hero booth 10 am on the first day of the con.

I'm sorry in advance if I'll take a while before I update my journal:)

Apologies for not replying on all private messages.

Thank you all,

Leinil

PS.  I will not be doing commissions anytime soon. Sorry:(  Too much work.

It's Smashing time

Thu Nov 13, 2008, 10:53 AM
I'm done folks! Actually I've been done for a few weeks now so I'm taking a short break. I've been killing Raiders in the wasteland for days now. FALLOUT 3 is friggin awesome guys... specially to older guys like me who first played it in '97. It's just absolutely hardcore RPG flawlessly fused with first person shooting. I'm going to have to stop and take a real vacation...going to hong kong for a few days and see if I can run into Chow Yun Fat in the street again.

Where was I?  Oh, It's TIME.  Ultimate Hulk and Wolverine is really going to happen folks.  I have all the scripts and this baby should be in hardcover real soon!  I just hope I can still mimic my 3 year old self.  It's gonna be a bit weird.

After that is some MARK MILLAR goodness with an arc of ULTIMATE AVENGERS.  Of course things could still change and Marvel could shuffle things around since we really won't know how the schedule would turn out.  It's still months away.

The future is looking great, folks.  Stay tuned.

Thanks for all the support and the hard earned cash, folks.

Add me in Facebook if you have an account.

End Game and some stuff

Fri Sep 26, 2008, 12:03 AM
One more month of work for me to go, folks, and it's all over. 76,234 bodies (most of them off camera) are scattered throughout central park and we still have a 26 page issue to go. This has been great fun and I can't wait to get my hands on the TPB.

I was planning on doing art commentaries on some issues of secret invasion, as well as showing more sketches and thumbnails but I just can't seem to find the time to do it.  Just like my "verbal plans" to take my wife out to nice, fancy dinners and buying her flowers, I'd just let you folks know that I THOUGHT about it:)

What's next is till foggy for me.  For sure, I'd be working on Ultimate Hulk and Wolverine but I will also be (probably) involved in non-Marvel work.  Things that I can't talk about this moment.

I'll keep you folks, posted!

Wooohooo!  Our little campaign to snag me the No. 1 spot in Wizard may have worked!  Just got the news that I've just reached the top spot.

Just thanking all of the fans who spend their hard earned cash to buy my books and show my work to everyone they know.

I'm going to have to buy 10 copies of this monumental issue since I've been hovering around the chart for a while now.  Wizard has always been an important part of my career as it served as an inspiration prior to my professional career.  They've published a few of my fan art which inspired me to take comics illustration more seriously.

This isn't exactly GQ or People Magazines 10 sexiest men, my primary goal,  but this'll have to do for now:)

To clarify misconceptions about the double page spread in Issue 5 particularly the inclusion of GMA, the Philippine president:

Filipino bloggers seem to revel in the fact that "she is a skrull", heck I thought it was fun as well but it may go out of hand. Tho I may share your views on our current government, this particular instance is quite innocent and is merely a shout out to Filipinos.  Heck, Stephen Colbert is there.  I think she's in good company.

The skrulls merely used the likeness of influential/recognizable people/characters to convey their message, and is not a revelation of the identities of skrulls in the Marvel Universe.  They may or may not be skrulls.  Tony Stark and Reed Richards are in the Savage Lands while this broadcast is happening and this should've clearly established this.

The list contains people who I find despicable, who I merely view with indifference and ones who I admire. (feel free to guess which is which).
The only criteria Brian Bendis gave was "influential" in different parts of the world and fields.

I hope this clears things up.

to those who haven't seen the issue yet, simply google:  secret invasion gloria arroyo

Edit/Update:

I've been very hesitant to mention non-comic/art related topics here in deviantart as not to alienate  international deviantartists, but here goes:

To Filipinos,  SHOW YOUR SUPPORT to one of  national heroes, FRANCIS MAGALONA by dropping by his site:  francismagalona.multiply.com.   I'm sure he'd appreciate your messages and well wishes.   Be sure to keep yourself healthy and be prepared to donate blood when he needs it.

Get well soon, Francis!

Howdy?

I just got a complimentary copy of BATTLEMILK from Thang Le and  Battlemilk.com and it's just amazing stuff from 4 accomplished and great artists.  Thang Le, Killian Plunket, Wayne Lo and Jackson Sze.  I would've definitely met up with them if I just made it to San Diego.  Oh well, Maybe in a convention in the near future.  Thanks, Thang!

Check out Battlemilk and get an idea of what it takes to be Lucasfilm's designers and artists.

On Secret Invasion:  I'm nearing the finish line guys but issue 7 is probably the greatest challenge of my career. Issue 5 should be out by now and I hope you guys picked it up and enjoyed it.  I was kinda burnt out in the first 12 pages of issue 5 but I managed to get back on the saddle towards the end.  I think you guys could see the demarcation line between the 2 states of mind.

Issue 6 is I think, one of my favorite issues I've done IMO as I've enjoyed doing each and every page on it.  It also has  a couple of double page spreads towards the end, which if I did it right, should blow you away.
It's Insane

I'm not ready to sprint to the finish line.  No more whining from Otacon and staring at Naomi's virtual face and cleavage, just pure business. :)

Btw, a favor, every time you buy my comics in the next few months, make sure you do it with immense enthusiasm and festive manner.  A huge smile and the insistence that I am the hottest artist today and that my work gave you new hope and purpose in life.  That way Wizard will finally rank me higher than no. 2 even for just one month!   hehe.

seriously, thanks for all you support boys and girls.  Sorry for being delinquent in answering notes and emails:(

Lastly, I met the great Nick Cardey last year in florida and just got his awesome art book in our local bookstore. I failed to mention him sooner but better late than never.  Nick is such a great artist and truly nice and warm person and meeting him was such an honor.  What I love about his work is his amazing painted stuff which I think, up to now kicks ass beside contemporary, newer works.  His color palette is ahead of it's time.   www.nickcardey.com.

I may be days too late but just expressing my sadness and condolences to Michael Turner's family and fans.

I spent a brief time with Michael and the cool Top cow guys about 10 years ago when we all went to a con in Toronto (if I remember it right).   Awesome guy and will be surely missed.... real sad:(

One of my all time favorite comedians is dead.  Thanks for all the thought-provoking and funny rants, sir!
Thank goodness for Youtube and the net, you're just a click away when we need your wisdom.

Note:  I can't change the emoticon for some weird reason.  I ain't happy.

“The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating...

...and you finish off as an orgasm.”

-George Carlin

Hello folks!

Sorry for the loooooong absence in deviantart.  I'm terribly sorry for not responding to your notes and emails!  I'm trying my best to keep up with the deadlines and the entanglements of day to day life:)

I also try to stay away from Comics news and forums since to me, it is still work related and elicits unwanted stress when I need a break.  Scathing criticisms also take a toll sometimes despite being dwarfed by positive responses.  I do frequent the net but in non-comic related sites.... and this is where the likes of George Carlin keeps me company:)

Anyways, I hope you guys are enjoying Secret Invasion!

Leinil

PS.... SADLY, I'm going to miss San Diego and all upcoming conventions.  The peak of my comics career and I'll be sitting these out at home in my boxer shorts.

Extremely violent and set in the gloomy world of the crusades,

This is one of  the best looking and exciting games I've ever played. avoid it at all cost if you want to get some work done.  In fact, I'm shelving it from now on....:)

Secret Invasion is in full swing folks!  The first issue comes in a hefty 38 pages and is exciting as hell.  Can't tell you much but it'll be worth your wait.

edit:  This game is the closest thing we have at the moment to being plugged into the Matrix.  I just wish we could, uh,  have a  nice chat with the ladies.
Got to meet Neil Gaiman today.  Not only the best writer comics has EVER seen but also one of the genuinely nicest persons you'll ever meet, specially considering his stature and accomplishments. He spent hours signing and talking to people, something that I know is quite taxing.  Amazing person. It was really a treat and thanks to Jaime of fullybooked for the oppurtunity.

On Tigra.  I know New Avengers 35 was quite shocking to a lot of people specifically the scenes with Tigra and the Hood.  Many people thought we were too brutal in portraying violence against a woman.
I don't look at tigra as a woman, a superheroine or a hero lady.  Tigra is a superhero in the same category as Capt. America and Wolverine. Superheroes get beat up and I think in the end, treating her as any other real superhero rather than be condescending was the right thing to do if we are to promote equality among sexes.   I was approached by a female reader today with that subject in mind and I'm glad she agreed with me.  Tigra will get her chance to show the Hood what she's made of:)

See you guys in the next update. cheers.
